Former Indian coach Dilip Vengsarkar has shared his predictions for the upcoming five-match Test series between India and England. He believes that the Rohit Sharma-led team, which is at his home, should win the series comfortably.
The test series between the Indian team and England will begin on January 25 in Hyderabad. It will be a series of five matches that will be played over two long months in India at different venues. The series will also be crucial for both the teams in the context of ICC World Test Championship points.
It is fair to say that there is no better team at home than India as they have destroyed their opponents and won fairly one-sided matches. The last time England toured India, they were the ones on the receiving end of the humiliation and looked clueless.
But since then a lot has changed in England cricket and they have become a dominant force in the longest format of the game. Under the leadership of Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum, they have become a force to be reckoned with and will no doubt be a major threat for India.
England have been unbeaten in Tests since the duo took over. They whitewashed Pakistan in Pakistan, drew series against Australia at home, defeated New Zealand and South Africa at home, and drew series against the Kiwis in their own backyard.
Playing against the Rohit Sharma-led team in India will be the biggest challenge they have faced so far. But with their Bazball approach, you can’t doubt them. India, on the other hand, would be confident because the type of cricket they have played at home is unmatched.
The Rohit Sharma-led team is yet to lose a home series in the last decade. But his last home series defeat was against England. Under the leadership of Alastair Cook, they scripted history and won the series by a 2-1 margin.
Dilip Vengsarkar predicts India-England series results
With just a day left before the Test series between India and England, Dilip Vengsarkar was asked to make his prediction for their series. He believes that the locals are superior and will win the series at home. Speaking to RevSportz, he explained:
“India is a very superior team. With them playing at home, they will definitely win the series.”
England have already announced their 11 players for the first Test. They have selected just one fast bowler in Mark Wood and have three specialist spinners. Ben Foakes will be the goalkeeper.
Here are England’s 11 players for the first IND vs ENG Test:
Zack Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes (c), Ben Foakes (wk), Rehan Ahmed, Jack Leach, Tom Hartley, Mark Wood
On the other hand, the Rohit Sharma-led team will announce their team in the draw. They will not be able to count on the services of Virat Kohli, who has withdrawn from the first two matches due to personal reasons. KL Rahul is likely to take his place in the team for the first two matches.
