Dinesh Karthik drops a bombshell on Suryakumar Yadav’s departure from KKR

Former Indian national team cricketer Dinesh Karthik has spoken about the possibility of Suryakumar Yadav moving to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The cricketer-turned-commentator did not give any hints but said that he would be surprised if that happens.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is just around the corner and preparations for the tournament seem to have begun. The tournament is all set to have a grand auction and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will soon announce a retention policy.

With the Indian Premier League (IPL) fever going on, several reports have been popping up and grabbing headlines. One of the major reports that has hit everyone is the transfer of Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav, who was recently appointed as the captain of the India T20I.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have reportedly made an offer to Suryakumar Yadav. The franchise is interested in acquiring the India T20I captain via a trade and is even ready to give him the captaincy of the team for the upcoming editions of the league.

During an interaction on Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik was asked about the possibility of Suryakumar Yadav leaving for Kolkata Knight Riders. Responding to this, the wicketkeeper-batsman claimed that he would be very surprised if such a move happens in the league. He stated:

“I’d be very surprised, that’s all I can tell you.”

Dinesh Karthik was also asked to pick the toughest bowler he has ever faced. The wicketkeeper-batsman immediately named Lasith Malinga, saying that he was never able to read him. He also named Steve Harmison, saying that he found it difficult to read the lanky bowler. He said:

“First, Lasith Malinga. I could never pick him. Right in the umpire’s face, he used to say you’d have a tough time. And then Stephen Harmison. Again, a nightmare. Very high, had a very pronounced bounce and always went down your throat. He was one of the toughest bowlers I ever faced.”

Dinesh Karthik played 26 Test matches, 94 ODIs and 60 T20Is between 2004 and 2022 and was part of some of the team’s biggest wins. He made his debut at the age of 19 in an ODI against England at Lord’s and has since seen Indian cricket grow by leaps and bounds.

The wicketkeeper-batsman scored 1025 runs in Tests, 1725 in ODIs and 686 in T20Is. He also won the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup with India. Karthik played 257 matches in the IPL, scoring 4,842 runs at an average of 26.32.
