The Indian team is going through a transition in the shortest format, with as many as three players retiring after the 2024 T20 World Cup triumph. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja have hung up their T20I boots, so India is in a search for ideal replacements.
Some players have been tried in different positions and the results have been encouraging. For example, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been absolutely phenomenal at the top, while Ruturaj Gaikwad has also been consistent.
The Indian team has also given opportunities to IPL stars like Abhishek Sharma and Riyan Parag in bilateral series, so the planning for the upcoming T20 World Cup is going in the right direction. The upcoming T20 World Cup will see a quite different team from the previous one, with several new players.

However, the biggest challenge will be finding more middle-order and lower-middle-order batsmen for the upcoming event. It’s a difficult role, so the key will be finding hitters who can maintain consistency over the long term.
Dinesh Karthik names two finalists for T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy
Dinesh Karthik named his two finalists, whom he values highly and praised them. On Cricbuzz, he named Hardik Pandya and Riyan Parag as two finalists, speaking highly of the skills they possess.
“For the finalists, I have a lot of time for Riyan Parag and Hardik Pandya. Pandya as a finisher is once again someone very special. He has won games. Yes, he has batted for Gujarat Titans slightly down the order between IPL, I think he enjoyed that role a lot more. But I think it will be seen as the finisher. India will do well with two strong finishers. Bat speed is needed, Riyan Parag has pure muscle and a lot of ability to hit the ball. Apart from the fact that they are true all-rounders, India will be a different team here in the T20 World Cups and also in the Champions Trophy.”
Hardik has played the role of finisher for India. Batting in the lower order and batting from the first ball is something he has done successfully in the past, and the team may look to place him in the same job again.
However, Riyan Parag is quite new to the set-up and his success in the IPL came when he started batting at number 4 for Rajasthan Royals (RR). Therefore, it will be interesting to see how the Indian team management utilizes him as they need to be cautious with their batting position.
