Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik has shared his views on the appointment of Jay Shah as the next president of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Dinesh Karthik described Jay Shah, who is currently the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), as an exceptional administrator.
The ICC confirmed that Shah will take over as president from December 1, 2024. He will be the youngest president of the ICC. The 35-year-old will be the fifth Indian to hold the post, after Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N. Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar.

Dinesh Karthik shared his thoughts on Shah’s appointment as the next ICC chief and highlighted her contributions to women’s cricket. Karthik also said that Shah has handled both the ICC and Indian cricket effectively, adding that the results are evident.
“I think Jay Shah has been an exceptional administrator. I really feel that not only for everything she has done for women’s cricket in general, But the way the ICC has been handled and the way Indian cricket has been handled, “And you can all see the results,” Karthik said.
“And as I said in the previous program, If you want your country’s cricket to perform well, you should always pay attention to domestic cricket. And Jayshah did it brilliantly.
He has taken care of the players and most players will tell you that. the comfort they have when traveling, “The kind of little things that he made a big deal of,” he added.
Jay Shah was elected unopposed as the ICC’s next independent president on Tuesday, August 27. Current president Greg Barclay has decided not to seek a third term, which ends in November.

Dinesh Karthik highlighted Jay Shah’s contributions to cricket, including increasing match fees and prioritising Test cricket. Karthik said Shah was behind the successful launch of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). He is confident that Shah will continue to support the growth of global cricket.
“The way he has increased match fees and ensured that Test cricket is at the forefront So players benefit a lot simply by choosing to play Test cricket. And there are many more. Women’s cricket, the WPL, the way it has been launched, “The way women’s cricket has taken off after that and so much more,” Karthik continued.
“And I am sure that when he also takes up that position at the ICC, He will help world cricket grow. And that is something very necessary,” he concluded.
Jay Shah began his administrative career at the district and state levels in Gujarat in 2009. He became the joint secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) in 2013. Shah was appointed as the secretary of the BCCI in 2019 and became the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in 2021.
Shah announced that during her tenure men and women would have to pay the same match fees. The board launched the Women’s Premier League, increased prize money in domestic cricket and hosted the IPL twice during the COVID pandemic. A new National Cricket Academy (NCA) campus was built.
