He went unsold last season but his double century now will definitely help boost his stock ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 auction.
A discarded Indian Premier League (IPL) cricketer recently made headlines after scoring a brilliant double ton in the ongoing Iran Cup between Rest of India and Mumbai.
Young and talented batsman Sarfaraz Khan went unsold in the last season (IPL 2024), but his double century now will definitely help boost his stock ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 auction.
Notably, Sarfaraz was part of India’s squad for the recently concluded India vs Bangladesh two-match Test series, although he did not feature in the playing XI.
The management released him during the second Test in Kanpur so that he could join the Mumbai team for the Iran Cup.
Sarfaraz has now become the fourth youngest Indian to score a double century in the Iranian Cup, after Yashasvi Jaiswal, Pravin Amre and Gundappa Vishwanath.

Sarfaraz Khan becomes first Mumbai batsman to hit double ton in Iranian Cup
Sarfaraz created history by becoming the first cricketer to score a double century in the Iran Cup while representing Mumbai. He is also only the 11th player to achieve this milestone in the 61 editions of the tournament.
Interestingly, notable cricketers like Wasim Jaffer, Pravin Amre, Ravi Shastri and Yashasvi Jaiswal also recorded double centuries in the Iran Cup, but none of them did so while playing for Mumbai. Jaffer achieved the feat representing Vidarbha after leaving Mumbai, and Amre, Shastri and Jaiswal achieved theirs while playing for the rest of India.
Sarfaraz’s impressive performances in domestic cricket earned him a debut for India against England. He wasted no time and made an impact on international cricket, scoring two half-centuries in his first match. So far, he has played three Tests for India, amassing 200 runs in five innings, averaging 50 in three half-centuries.
