The influx of English cricketers in the IPL has increased over the last five years. The IPL 2025 Mega Auction features England to add more players to the roster. The Mega Auction will have some rule changes.

Over the years, Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali and Jason have all shone in the IPL. Phil Salt is the latest addition to that list after his strong season with KKR earlier this year. Harry Brook is another name who can bring something to the tournament but is yet to make a name for himself.

Several important decisions were taken at the meeting between the IPL franchises and the BCCI. The number of detentions was a topic that was discussed for quite some time.

Teams like KKR and SRH have urged the BCI to allow at least 7-8 retentions to help them retain a large part of their core after a title-winning season.

Most teams have agreed to this. The franchises have also agreed to ban the mega auction and instead hold mini auctions every year as they occur.

Meanwhile, the problem with England players over the years has been that they have withdrawn from the tournament on multiple occasions after signing up.

The BCCI is also hoping to tighten the screws on the participation of foreign players in the league.

In this article, we look at five England players who could retire from T20s if they are not selected in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

England legends who could retire from T20 if not selected for IPL 2025

Jason Roy

Roy pulled out of the tournament last year citing personal reasons and said he was looking forward to a break after playing a lot over the past year. It was a blessing in disguise for KKR, who signed Phil Salt in his place and put the IPL into high gear.

Since Roy has pulled out of the tournament several times in recent times, IPL franchises might look to avoid buying him.

Jofra Archer

In the last four-five years, Jofra Archer has been on a tight schedule with injuries. He has had elbow issues which have also kept him away from international cricket. He missed the 2023 ODI World Cup and then the 2024 T20 World Cup.

He returned to the IPL in 2023 playing for the Mumbai Indians but could only play five games and picked up just two wickets.

His best IPL season was in 2018 and 2020, when he played for Rajasthan Royals. In case he is not picked in the 2025 IPL mega auction, Archer may think of retiring from the tournament.

Ben Stokes

Stokes, the captain of the England national team, has also been playing in the IPL since 2017. However, he too has been ruled out several times due to injury issues. He last played for CSK in IPL 2023, which spent Rs 16.25 crore to sign him, but was ruled out due to injury.

Since some England players have previously withdrawn from the tournament citing different reasons, the franchise might overlook them in the upcoming auction.

Adil Rashid

Rashid has been one of those underrated bowlers who have been overlooked by IPL franchises. He played in IPL 2021 and 2023 for Punjab Kings, who did not invest in the England leg-spinner for a longer career.

Rashid has incredible success as a white-ball bowler in international cricket. However, limited opportunities have not allowed his IPL career to flourish. He can expect to retire from the format if he is not sold.

Harry Brook

Brook was signed by SRH for over Rs 13 crore in IPL 2023. He was released ahead of the IPL 2024 auction and was signed by Delhi Capitals for Rs 4 crore. However, he did not show up for the season citing personal reasons.

This attitude of skipping IPL seasons after signing up for the English player auction has not gone down well with several franchises. If Brook does not play in the IPL regularly, he might lose the favour of the fans.
