The term “primate” did not sit well with the audience; It reminded them of the infamous Monkeygate scandal of 2008.
Former England cricketer and current commentator Isa Guha has apologized for her racial comments on Jasprit Bumrah on the second day of The Gabba Test. While it seemed unintentional, Isa called Bumrah a “primate” while commentating on Fox Cricket yesterday.
“Well, he’s the MVP, right? The most valuable primate, Jasprit Bumrah. “He is the one who is going to speak for India, and why so much attention was paid to him in the build-up to this Test match, and whether he would be fit.”

The term “primate” did not sit well with the audience; It reminded them of the infamous Monkeygate scandal of 2008. Therefore, he apologized for using that term before the start of the game today.
“Yesterday in the comment I used a word that can be interpreted in different ways. I would like to apologize for any offense caused. I set very high standards for myself when it comes to empathy and respect for others. I was trying to frame the enormity of his achievement and chose the wrong word. And for that I am deeply sorry. As someone who is also of South Asian descent, I hope people recognize that there was no other intent or malice there, and I hope this hasn’t overshadowed what has been a great Test match so far, and I look forward to seeing how it plays out. progress.”
Ravi Shastri calls Isa Guha ‘brave’ after public apology
Following Isa Guha’s public apology, Ravi Shastri, who also comments alongside Guha, called her “brave”. He added that such mistakes can happen to anyone and that everyone should move on.
“Brave woman, it takes some steel to apologize on live television. You heard it from the horse’s mouth so, as far as I’m concerned, it’s game over. People have the right to make mistakes, we are all human. In the heat of the moment, sometimes when you have the microphone in your hand, things can happen. Let’s move forward.”
Honestly, Isa’s comments were not offensive and he just wanted to applaud Bumrah after his sensational bowling performance on the second day of the Brisbane Test. While ‘primate’ might not have been the best choice, it’s clear she had no intention of being rude.
Bumrah finished with another five-wicket haul, snaring six wickets for 76 runs in 28 overs. If he had not dismissed the Australian batsmen regularly, they would have scored more in the first innings.
