In a recent development, MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) officials reportedly planned a meeting to finalize their former captain’s future ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) retention deadline.
CSK will take their final decision on retention only after meeting Dhoni. According to Sports Tak, a source aware of the developments revealed that the CSK management had approached Dhoni. However, the former India and CSK captain said that he will not be available until October 28. Thus, it is expected that both parties will meet on the 29th or 30th of this month and then finalize the retentions. The deadline for all teams to submit their list of retained players is October 31.
Dhoni is currently in the twilight of his career and with a nagging knee problem, it will be interesting to see what roadmap the franchise decides for the great ‘Thala’.
CSK can sign MS Dhoni as a non-international player
This year, Dhoni is eligible to be retained by CSK as an uncapped player, courtesy of the reinstatement of a rule that was removed in 2021. Under this rule, a player is considered uncapped if he has retired from international cricket for at least five years. .
