He was not happy with Gambhir getting the credit for India’s new aggressive approach.
The Indian team, under the leadership of new coach Gautam Gambhir, has witnessed the dawn of a new era in which the Men in Blue are playing a fearless and bold brand of cricket, as seen in the white-ball series of Sri Lanka and in the recently concluded two- match Bangladesh Test series.
In response to India’s highly aggressive batting display during the second Kanpur Test, where they clinched victory in just over four sessions despite losing time due to poor pitching conditions on Days 2 and 3 of the contest, Several terms similar to “Bazball” (the sport of England) were used. renowned batting style under coach Brendon McCullum) began to emerge, such as “Ro-ball” and “Gamball.”
However, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar was not exactly impressed with these comparisons.
The Indian cricket legend pointed out that Gambhir never played in that style during his career, making it inappropriate to use the term ‘Gamball’.

Sunil Gavaskar coins new term for India’s new aggressive approach
After the victory, sections of the Indian cricket community praised Gautam Gambhir for the team’s aggressive strategy. But former India opener Sunil Gavaskar, writing in his Sportstar column, disagreed and argued that Rohit deserves credit for India’s bold new approach to international cricket.
He introduced a new term and expressed that the credit for India’s batting revolution should go solely to captain Rohit Sharma, not Gautam Gambhir.
Sunil Gavaskar, impressed by Rohit’s confident and calculated batting in the Kanpur Test, suggested that India’s new batting approach could be called ‘Gohit’.
In the same vein, Gavaskar said: “Gambhir has only been training for a couple of months, so attributing this approach to him is foot-licking of the highest quality. Gambhir himself hardly ever batted this way like McCullum used to. If any credit is due, it is solely to Rohit and no one else.”
