The duo fought over whose fault it was.

Team India suffered a major blow on Day 2 of the ongoing Boxing Day Test at the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) when Yashasvi Jaiswal had to return to the pavilion due to an unfortunate mix-up in the middle with Virat Kohli.

Notably, Jaiswal was looking in brilliant touch and was inching closer to his century when the incident occurred and the youngster had to leave.

What happened was that the left-hander shot to midfield and immediately ran for a single. However, Virat Kohli, who was next to the non-striker, did not trust Jaiswal’s decision and decided to look back.

By then Scott Boland had already picked up the ball and threw it towards the striker’s side. Although he missed the stumps, goalkeeper Alex Carey reached at the right time to effect the delivery while Jaiswal remained stranded outside the box.

However, speaking about the incident post-match, former India cricketers Sanjay Manjrekar and Irfan Pathan engaged in a heated on-air battle over whose fault it was for the foul.

Manjrekar believed that Kohli should have taken the single when Jaiswal called for it as Jaiswal was heading towards the riskier end. However, Pathan had a different perspective, arguing that Kohli was also in danger of running out of the ball at the striker’s end because Jaiswal’s shot was hit with considerable power.

“The ball was slow, I don’t think Kohli would have run out of the ball. It was Jaiswal’s call. It might have been a risky run, but he was on the dangerous side, not Kohli. It was a schoolboy mistake by Virat who looked back and decided it wasn’t a race. If it had been a bad decision by Jaiswal, he would have gone out on the non-striker’s side,” Manjrekar said.
