During the ODI series between Sri Lanka and West Indies, Rutherford, a former RCB player, played very well and attracted attention ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
After not performing well in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, Rutherford returned strongly in the ODIs. He scored a total of 204 runs, at an average of 204, and was only out once. In the first ODI, he scored 74 off 82 balls, 80 off 82 in the second ODI and a quickfire 50 off just 26 balls in the third ODI. Although his team lost the series, he stood out as the best player.
Before this series, Rutherford played in the CPL but had to leave after playing only four matches due to personal problems. He was also part of the KKR team that won the IPL earlier this year, although he did not play any games as there were many important players ahead of him, including Phil Salt, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Mitchell Starc.

He also played for Delhi Capitals and RCB before joining KKR in the IPL, appearing in seven matches for DC in 2019 and three for RCB in 2022, which was the last time he played a match in the IPL. His IPL numbers may not show how good he is, but he has done well in other leagues and now in international cricket. He has played 24 T20I matches and scored 396 runs at a strike rate of 146.12. In domestic T20 matches, he played 149 matches and scored 2,439 runs at a strike rate of 134.45.
Rutherford will surely get more opportunities as he is a dynamic and hard-hitting batsman capable of making an impact in the middle order from the first ball. With the IPL auction approaching, his recent performances make him a player franchises should keep an eye on.
