West Indies batsman Sherfane Rutherford has emerged as one of the most sought-after players for the second day of the IPL 2025 auction after his record-breaking century in the Abu Dhabi T10 League on Sunday, when the auction opened in Saudi Arabia.
Fortunately, Rutherford is not yet on the long list of IPL auctions in Jeddah and could be up for grabs on day two with many teams set to eye the West Indies talent.

Rutherford’s unbeaten 103 off 40 balls in the T10, with 10 sixes and 7 boundaries, demonstrated his ability to dominate bowlers from the first ball. His historic knock, the first century in the history of the T10 League, has probably caught the attention of multiple IPL franchises.
1. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)
RCB, with a strong core of Jitesh Sharma and Liam Livingstone, still lacks a dedicated finisher in their lineup. Rutherford, who played briefly for RCB in 2022, has developed significantly since his time in the IPL.
His ability to accelerate in the death overs and handle high-pressure situations makes him an attractive option for the team looking to strengthen their lower order.
RCB need to fill the void left by Dinesh Karthik and having an x-factor player like Rutherford will give them flexibility to use players like Jitesh and Livingstone more wisely.

2. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
CSK got their picks right on the first day of the IPL 2025 auction, splurging on Noor Ahmad alone for INR 10 crore to form a strong spin trio of Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Noor.
Now, their attention turns to the finalists who have recovered their best hitters. They need a finisher who can complement MS Dhoni and Jadeja and will consider Rutherford as a good option.
With his proven ability to handle spin and hit big, Rutherford fits the profile for Chennai. His skills add some variety to CSK and would be an upgrade over Daryl Mitchell, who they had last year.

3. Bombay Indians
With Rs 26.1 crore left in their auction purse after the first day, Mumbai Indians can afford to invest in Sherfane Rutherford. The West Indian can perfectly fill the gap left by Tim David and offer a powerful finishing option alongside Hardik Pandya.
Kieron Pollard, now part of MI’s auction strategy team, is familiar with Rutherford’s abilities and could push for his inclusion in the team.
Mumbai Indians have been keeping an eye on their selections so far, but with the auction geared towards the second tier of players, Rutherford is a great choice for MI to add to their fantastic squad that they have carefully built so far.

4. Kings of Punjab (PBKS)
The Punjab Kings have ₹22.5 crore left and are looking for a finisher to complement Shashank Singh. Rutherford’s ability to bat with spin and his left-handed batting provide the balance Punjab needs. The fact that they have not attempted to bid for finalists so far suggests that they are eyeing a foreign finalist in their ranks.
Rutherford’s potential to win matches in the lower order aligns with Punjab’s aggressive approach in the auction so far.
As Day 2 of the auction progresses, Rutherford’s recent performances have made him a must-have player for Monday’s teams. The need for an explosive finisher and middle-order stability is a requirement for most teams even after the first day of the IPL 2025 auction and Sherfane Rutherford could fetch a few bucks this time.
