LSG finished seventh in IPL 2024 after making it to the playoffs back-to-back in IPL 2022 and IPL 2023. They won seven matches and lost seven in what was an overall disappointing season for the franchise.

Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, there are reports of major changes in the team. Justin Langer, who was brought in as the head coach of the franchise after Gautam Gambhir’s departure, was unable to bring the same performance from the team.

While KL Rahul scored runs, the rest of the players by and large failed to follow or support him. Apart from Rahul, the team lacks a quality international cricketer from India, which is a loophole that the management would love to plug ahead of the next big auction.

The image of LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka and KL Rahul engaged in a heated argument has sparked all sorts of reactions in the cricketing world. Reports have surfaced in the media that KL Rahul is likely to leave the franchise.

The BCCI has responded that it will take a decision by the end of the month. Meanwhile, in this article, we look at three Indian players that LSG could release ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

KL Rahul

Rahul’s departure from LSG is almost an official news. After what transpired between him and Sanjeev Goenka, it was quite clear that the management might not want to continue with Rahul as captain.

Goenka’s harsh reaction came after LSG lost to SRH by 10 wickets as the Super Giants owner was not too happy with the way he led the team in that particular match. There are reports that he might join RCB and eventually lead the team next year.

Deepak Hooda

After his 451-run stint for LSG in the 2022 IPL, Hooda scored 84 and 145 in the next two seasons for the franchise. The franchise did not make sufficient use of Hooda’s all-round potential. He has struggled to bat in any position he has been asked to do so.

His performances have been a cause for concern and the fact that he is nowhere near being selected for India could also count against him. He has damaged his reputation a lot by not taking advantage of the opportunities that came his way.

Amit Mishra

Mishra will be 42 when the IPL starts next year. LSG used him as an impact player in almost every match he played. The rule will allow players like him and Piyush Chawla to be used as a surprise weapon by the bowling captain. However, if the rule does not come into effect next year,

Mishra is most likely to be released by LSG. He remains one of the tournament’s leading wicket-takers with 174 wickets. He is still 26 short of reaching 200 wickets in the IPL.
