The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Friday (September 20) announced the schedule for the ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024. The tournament is scheduled to be played from October 18 to 27 in Oman.
Just like the previous edition, eight teams will participate in the upcoming edition as well. The tournament will be the sixth edition of the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. The last edition of the competition was played in Sri Lanka in 2023. Pakistan A had won the tournament with a crushing 128-run victory over India A in the final.
The five ‘A’ teams from the Full Members of the Asian Cricket Council and the top 3 teams from the ACC Men’s Premier Cup 2024 will compete in the Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024. ‘A’ teams from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will battle it out against the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Hong Kong.
The United Arab Emirates won the 2024 ACC Men’s Premier Cup with a victory over Oman in the final. On the other hand, Hong Kong defeated Nepal in the third-place match and qualified for the 2024 Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 Groups and Schedule:
The eight teams have been divided into two groups. Sri Lanka A, Bangladesh A, Afghanistan A and Hong Kong are in Group A, while India A, Pakistan A, United Arab Emirates and Oman are in Group B. Bangladesh A and Hong Kong will face each other in the opening match of the tournament.
Meanwhile, reigning champions Pakistan A and India A will open their campaigns by facing each other on October 19. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.
Pakistan A have won the previous two editions of the Emerging Teams Asia Cup and will be looking to make it a treble. India A, on the other hand, have not won the competition since winning the inaugural edition in 2013 and will be desperate to go all the way at the 2024 Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
