Former Indian National Cricket Team opening batsman Aakash Chopra has made a big revelation by claiming that head coach Gautam Gambhir is a true fan of star batsman and wicketkeeper Sanju Samson.
Chopra made this revelation after Samson’s crazy innings in the third and final T20I of the series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team on Saturday, October 12 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad.
Sanju Samson demolished a bowling alley in Bangladesh
Sanju Samson looked his best in the third T20I and played aggressively from the first ball. He completed his fifty off just 22 balls and was quite elated after reaching the milestone.
However, the 29-year-old didn’t end there and made sure to surpass the three-figure mark. Samson accelerated further and completed his ton off 40 balls, becoming the second-fastest Indian after Rohit Sharma to score a T20I hundred.
Sanju Samson was dismissed after scoring 111 runs off 47 balls, including 11 fours and sixes. His knock helped India post a historic total of 297 for 6 in the match.
Gautam Gambhir used to wait for Sanju Samson to do well before tweeting – Aakash Chopra
The cricketer-turned-commentator was very impressed with Samson’s social class and opined that coach Gautam Gambhir would also be absolutely delighted.
Chopra revealed that Gambhir has been a big fan of Samson and used to wait for the batsman to perform well before tweeting. In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said:
“Let’s talk about Sanju Samson, the phenomenon. Gautam Gambhir had tweeted a few years ago that Sanju Samson is not only India’s best wicketkeeper-batsman but also the best young batsman in the country. Once, I was interviewing him (Samson). , and told him that the only reason in his life should be to get Gautam to tweet.
“Gautam used to wait for Sanju to do well before he could tweet. Gautam was a fan of Sanju. He may still be a fan of Sanju because of the way he batted. Firstly, he hit five sixes in one over. He said his mentor I had asked him to do it. It occurred to me why his mentor didn’t talk about six sixes.
He would walk away and hit sixes and fours on the ground – Aakash Chopra
Chopra further praised Samson’s boundaries in the third T20I. Notably, Sanju Samson even smashed Taskin Ahmed with four consecutive fours and Rishad Hossain with five consecutive sixes. Aakash Chopra said:
“Anyway, five sixes. He was going away and hitting sixes and fours on the ground. You will always see that silky touch in Sanju’s batting. His batting is extremely pleasing to the eye. He hits sixes while standing in his position and He bats straight. He hit a back-foot six over cover against Mustafizur, and I was like ‘Wow’.”
Aakash Chopra also opined that the high society in Hyderabad was crucial for Sanju Samson to strengthen his position in the Indian team. He elaborated:
“Sanju Samson scoring a century is a very positive thing. It is not often that you can bat first twice in a three-match series on good pitches and not have so much pressure from the opposing team. In such a scenario, if you send the series without runs of score, the pressure increases, and on Sanju in any case.
“Your career graph has been like this. You don’t get repeat opportunities that easily and in any case, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill will return at some point. It was an important innings. Very well done, Sanju Samson.”
