Indian national cricket team player Ravichandran Ashwin surprised many after the third test against the Australian national cricket team ended at The Gabba in Brisbane. He announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who played the pink-ball Test in Adelaide after the Gabba Test, confirmed that he is done with International Cricket. It came as a surprise to many because not many expected the all-rounder to announce his retirement midway through the series and so early, when he still has some cricket left in him.

Ashwin came out with Rohit Sharma for the press conference and announced the decision. Even the skipper was asked the same thing, which he claimed he came to know after arriving in Perth, but convinced him to play the pink ball test.
He said: “When I got to Perth, we had a chat and I somehow convinced him to stay for that pink-ball Test match, and after that it just happened… He felt that if they didn’t need me. “Right now in the series, it’s better that I say goodbye to the game.

However, according to a new set of reports in Indian Express, it is learned that Ravichandran Ashwin had no plans to retire before boarding the flight to Perth for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. But the intruder had let his family know about his retirement, due to the struggles with a knee injury.
His family agreed with him when they told him to consider the decision. He, however, had told them that he would announce his retirement after the Australian tour. But after being eliminated from the Brisbane trial, he told his family he would announce his retirement on December 18.
Ravichandran Ashwin wanted clearance from the team management about his place in the playing XI for the Australia series.
In another series of reports in PTI, it emerged that the player had already decided to retire after the home series against New Zealand. He also wanted clearance from the team management on his place in the XI for the tour of Australia and if he was not guaranteed a place, he would not even travel to Australia.
A source close to the BCCI said, “There was no push from the selection committee. Ashwin is a legend of Indian cricket and he has the right to take his own decision.”
Reports also claimed that Ashwin’s decision to retire surprised everyone in the Indian dressing room. The player approached each and every player and told them his decision. He also considered the future of the team before deciding to retire. Also, Gautam Gambhir chose Sundar instead of Ashwin and it was one of the reasons why the veteran decided to retire from international cricket.
