Fans reacted on Twitter after Sri Lanka sealed the three-match series against India following their dominant win in the third game of the series. They defeated the Rohit Sharma-led side by 110 runs at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday.
Sri Lanka opted to bat and got off to a dream start with openers Pathum Nissanka (45) and Avishka Fernando (96) putting pressure on India with their opening over of 89 runs. After Nissanka got out, Kusal Mendis (59) supported Fernando. They added 82 runs for the second wicket.
However, after that, the Indian bowlers made a spectacular comeback and got wickets in the middle and final overs, limiting the flow of runs. Riyan Parag got three wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar each got one wicket as Sri Lanka finished with a total of 248 for seven.
In the chase, Rohit Sharma (35) again gave a positive start to the team but did not get the desired support from the other end. Virat Kohli (20) played some glorious plays but could not recover after the start he had.
Dunith Wellalage took four wickets in an instant as the Indian wickets fell like a house of cards and came under huge pressure. India were reduced to 108 for seven with all the big names back in the hut, struggling against the Sri Lankan team’s bowlers.
Washington Sundar (30) tried to fight for his team but could not sustain the pace for long. Sri Lanka bowled out India for 138 runs to win the game by a massive margin of 110 runs. Apart from Dunith, Maheesh Theekshana and Jeffrey Vandersay picked up two wickets as the island nation registered its first ODI series win over India since 1997.
Fans on Twitter react after India’s series loss against Sri Lanka
As the Indian national cricket team failed to win the series against Sri Lanka, fans reacted on Twitter. They criticised the Rohit Sharma-led team for their poor performance with the bat and gave some angry reactions. Here are some of them:
Food for thought: India produced great bowlers, batsmen who could dominate and subdue great bowlers… It is hard to believe that Sri Lankan bowlers beat us.
Congratulations Sri Lanka, you deserve to win this series.– Navjot Singh Sidhu (@sherryontopp) August 7, 2024
Quite disappointing from the Indian team @INDvsSL .. The 249 goal required some effort in runs and partnerships! A solid character! Not just attacking innovative shots! 🤯 💔@ESPNcricinfo @BCCI

Sri Lankan cricket team must be very happy tonight. They have beaten India after 27 years.
Congratulations to Sanath Jayasuriya and Asalanka.
Special mention to Avishka Fernando and Dunith Wellalage for today.👌

Since Endian Cricket’s governing board BCCI is not interested in travelling to Pakistan for the CT, let them stay home and invite Sri Lanka. By the way, India lost the Odi series by 2-0 😅🥱.#IND vs SL #ChampionsTrophy2025

Give the Indian cricket team players a break and let them enjoy, they just want to rest. The Bcci has to come forward and tell them to play local cricket otherwise Tata, bye bye. #IndiaInParis24 #IND vs SL #virat #GOLD

Gambhir wants to take credit for winning the World Cup after 28 years.
But people are giving him credit for losing the series against SL after 27 years.

Gautam Gambhir should rejoin the BJP and reward people with ministerial posts even when poor performance is only justified there, not in Indian cricket.

Ravindra Jadeja would have been very lethal on this kind of pitch, but this clueless coach ignored him. 😂💥

The art of playing spin on spinning pitches is improved by playing multi-day domestic cricket with the red ball. The older generations were good at playing spin because they played the Ranji/Duleep/Irani Cup from time to time. These ones just don’t do it. Period.
