‘Giving a name to a certain style…’: Gautam Gambhir launches a brutal criticism of Bazball

India national cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir has mocked the England national cricket team’s “Bazball” style of cricket, which they started playing after the appointment of Brendon McCullum as head coach and Ben Stokes as captain in red-ball cricket.

The term bazball was coined by Andrew Miller and refers to an aggressive approach that England adopted under McCullum and Stokes to completely transform their Test cricket and emerge from the crisis. It has received criticism from some pundits, but many of them have also become fans of England’s new approach.

While playing basketball under the new regime, England won 19 of 30 matches, with only one loss in the series against India away from home. It is noteworthy that under the old regime, the Three Lions had won only one of the previous 17 matches.

English players who play basketball often say that they don’t care about results and are mainly focused on making the purest form of cricket more entertaining with their aggressive cricket. However, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir thinks exactly the opposite as results are everything to him.

“I have always believed that the best style is the one that triumphs” – Gautam Gambhir

At the pre-Test match press conference for Bangladesh, Gautam Gambhir said that the style that brings victory is the best one a team can adopt and playing according to the situations becomes the most important factor.

“I have always believed that the best style is the one that wins, and we want to be a team that adapts and learns quickly rather than adopting a style,” Gautam Gambhir said.

“If you start adopting a style, there will be no growth. We want the boys to play according to the situation, the conditions and keep growing day by day, and that’s all that matters,” Gautam Gambhir said.

“All this, giving a name to a certain style and playing in one way. Ultimately, the sport is about results. And the best thing, as I just mentioned, is the best style that wins,” added Gautam Gambhir.

Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir will be taking part in his first Test series as the head coach of the Indian National Cricket Team against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team at home. So far, he has guided India in an ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka, winning the 20-over contest but losing the 50-over series.

Meanwhile, the first Test between India and Bangladesh will be played on September 19 in Chennai, and the second Test will be played on September 27 in Kanpur.

Although India comes into the series as favourites, Bangladesh cannot be taken lightly, especially after their historic Test series win in Pakistan. However, former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif believes that the Bangladesh Tigers will not be able to trouble the Indian team as they are playing at a different level at home.

“Bangladesh may have won in Pakistan but India are on a different level. Rohit Sharma’s team has Virat Kohli and Bumrah and is united. It’s difficult for anyone to beat them at home. #INDvsBAN,” the former India cricketer said.
