The incident had deeply affected Maxwell.
In a recent revelation, Australian star Glenn Maxwell opened up in his new book about the torrid treatment received by a former India legend during his stay with the Punjab franchise.
The dynamic Australian all-rounder, in his book titled ‘The Showman’, recounted his stint with the Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and how his relationship soured with Virender Sehwag, who was the mentor of the team at that time.
Maxwell, who was given the captaincy reins of the Punjab-based franchise in 2017, failed to guide the team to the playoffs and finished fifth in the points table.
In the book, Maxwell talked about the challenges he faced during the season, the biggest being that of Sehwag, who influenced the team’s decisions and had the final say on the playing eleven.
Not only that, Sehwag also failed to comply with others and made decisions that “didn’t necessarily make sense.”

However, after the final league match was over, Maxwell volunteered to give the press conference.
To his surprise, Sehwag attended the conference and called Maxwell a “big disappointment.” Maxwell was even removed from the team’s main WhatsApp group.
The incident affected Maxwell deeply and she even texted Sehwag about the same.
Narrating in her book, Maxwell wrote: “I texted him to tell him how much it hurt me to read those comments and added that he had lost a fan in me because of the way he had behaved. Sehwag’s response was simple: “I don’t need fans like you.” “We never spoke again.”
Talking about Maxwell’s current situation, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are unlikely to sign him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction after he had a disappointing last season for the franchise, returning with just 129 runs in 10 matches.
