Gujarat Titans Stalwart named captain of Mumbai Indians franchise in SA20

He has been re-elected leader for the third season of SA20.

Ahead of the upcoming edition of SA 20 2025, Gujarat Titans (GT) star spinner Rashid Khan has been handed the reins of captaincy of a sister franchise of Mumbai Indians – MI Cape Town. The news was confirmed by MI Cape Town through an official post on their social media.

Notably, Rashid already led the team in the inaugural edition of the tournament but was unable to continue his responsibilities the following season after being sidelined with an injury. Once again re-elected leader, the Afghan all-rounder hopes to propel his team to their first SA20 title this time around.

MI team Cape Town have had a tough start to their SA20 campaigns, unlike their parent team Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. In the two seasons we have had, the team has finished at the bottom of the table on both occasions.

Now, with the addition of Rashid Khan to the team, they will look to improve results with an outstanding leader at the helm.

Rashid Khan to lead star-studded MI Cape Town team

Rashid Khan will take on the responsibility of leading a star-studded team. In addition to experienced players such as Trent Boult and Ben Stokes, the Cape Town team also boasts talents such as Ryan Rickelton and Dewald Brevis.

MI’s bowling attack is expected to be the highlight, with RCB’s Rashid, Boult, Kagiso Rabada and Nuwan Untilhara spearheading the effort to secure their first championship title. While the batting line-up may look slightly vulnerable, the strong leadership and dynamic bowling unit makes up for it.

The third season of the SA20 will begin on January 9 and promises intense competition for the coveted trophy.
