Chennai Super Kings (CSK) could have found a future star in Urvil Patel. He entered as a replacement for Vansh Bedi, who was discarded from the Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to a left ankle ligament injury. Urvil, a Gujarat Wicktkeeper and batter, was signed by RS 30 Lakh. He was previously part of the Gujarat Titans team in IPL 2023, although he did not have the opportunity to play. However, it is known to write down the fastest T20 century of an Indian.

Urvil caused a great impression in his debut match against Kolkata Knight riders in Eden Gardens. He scored 31 races of only 11 balls, hitting four six and four. His rapid blow helped CSK win the game and showed that he feels comfortable playing in the big stage. However, in his second game, he was fired by Zero against Rajasthan Royals. Even so, his performance against KKR showed that he has the ability to have an impact.

CSK will probably keep it for the next season. While Mrs. Dhoni has not said anything about retiring or will play at IPL 2026, Urvil could be a good option in the future. Currently, the team only has Devon Conway as Wicktkeeper, so having Urvil adds depth to the team.

At a press conference before the match against GT, CSK Sridharan Sriram assistant coach Sriram if Urvil is being trained as a replacement for Dhoni. Sriram said it is too early to say it, but he praised Urvil’s talent. He said that Urvil is not afraid, he has fast hands and his wicktkeeping is an advantage. As a mass, it definitely adds value. He has only played two games so far, so the team does not want to press it too much, but they think it has a brilliant future.

“Urvil is an incredible talent: hands without problems and fast, and being a guardian help. If we are preparing it to make it the next Wicktkeeper it is still too early to say it. But as a batter, it definitely adds value. He has only played 2 games so far, so we do not want to exaggerate it too much, but we know it is a phenomenal talent with a brilliant future,” Sriram said.

With the future of Dhoni still uncertain, the arrival of Urvil Patel has given CSK a promising option to wait in the next seasons.
