Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are having a tough time, especially the former, in the longer format. The duo has struggled to get going and a similar pattern has been observed in their dismissal modes.

Rohit came out on the deliveries straightening or moving away from him, while Virat chased the deliveries off the boundary to lose his wicket against the pacers. There is an obvious regression in their games, which will be exacerbated as the Australian speedsters continue to attack hard in the remainder of the series.

Meanwhile, former India coach Greg Chappell has asked Indian selectors to have difficult conversations with senior professionals. While speaking to reporters in Adelaide, he acknowledged that everyone goes through this period.

“That is why strong policies and selection panels are needed. It’s very hard. You have to choose the right people to be the selectors, those who are prepared to have those difficult conversations. They can be. It depends on the relationships between the different people in the room. But we all go through that, everyone who plays at that level. You will have ups and downs as a player.”

After a convincing win in the first game in Perth, India suffered a heavy defeat in the second game which allowed Australia to level the series. However, the situation is still open and India needs its senior players to step up now.

The batting department has been a major problem and it is time for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to show their class. Rohit was India’s best batsman not long ago and should lead from the front.

Meanwhile, Kohli also looked good in the second dig of the Perth Test and should come back to the rescue. If these two fire, the batting line-up will start looking tidy again and the workload on the bowlers will be eased.

Maybe they need a hit to gain that momentum and get going in the upcoming games. There will be no better time than the next test to do it.
