Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) face off in Match 6 of IPL 2024 in Bengaluru on Monday. The match starts at 7.30 pm IST. This is the second game for both teams this season.
RCB is led by Faf du Plessis while Shikhar Dhawan leads the Punjab Kings. He will face his former India teammate Virat Kohli, who just lost against Chennai Super Kings. Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings defeated the Capitals by four wickets and chased down 175 to win.
The defeat highlighted Royal Challengers Bangalore’s lingering problems against Chennai Super Kings. They are still a very important batting unit and hardly anyone except Dinesh Karthik bats in the middle order. There are also issues with the Bengaluru team’s bowling attack.
They play three of the remaining four matches at home and therefore need to address their bowling issues ahead of their match against Punjab Kings. Lockie Ferguson, Alzarri Joseph and Yash Dayal were the players added to their ranks this season. Both foreign pacers have higher economy rates in the IPL in their limited careers.
Shikhar Dhawan’s Punjab Kings have won three of the last five matches against RCB. However, it was RCB who won the previous match in Bengaluru last year. Dhawan has a good core of players in Punjab Kings and if everyone can play to their potential, they will be able to overcome RCB at home.
Both teams have not won the IPL and have been perennial underperformers in the tournament. While Bangalore reached the final three times, Punjab’s only appearance in the IPL was in 2014. Since then, the Kings have consistently finished sixth or lower. Every tear, these two teams look good, but they fail to advance and make the playoffs.
