Former South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs has shamelessly criticized another former RCB batsman for not winning an IPL trophy. The player is considered one of the best to ever play the game, but an IPL title always eluded him.
A user of social media platform X (formerly Twitter) said he was told the Champions Trophy tournament is irrelevant. Gibbs gave a fitting response, saying that it was more than a T20 league for them.
When the same user mentioned AB de Villiers’ inferior record in the same tournament, Gibbs replied that he won an IPL tournament. “And I won an IPL too,” Gibbs wrote, probing AB.
Someone later mentioned Gibbs’ fumble in the 1999 World Cup, which played a crucial role in South Africa’s narrow defeat, and Gibbs responded: “The same thing happened in the 2015 semi-final against New Zealand.” There were several fielding errors during the 2015 semi-final match when South Africa crumbled under pressure in Auckland to let the game go and lost the game with a ball to spare, shattering South Africa’s dream of winning an ICC tournament.
AB de Villiers never won a title in the IPL
Talking about AB de Villiers, he has played for two franchises, Delhi Capitals (then Daredevils) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), in the Indian Premier League. He has been among the best hitters in the league and has scored several runs with the willow.
AB has also broken several records and is known for his supreme batting even after a few years of retirement. However, AB de Villiers has never won an IPL title despite coming close to winning it several times.

RCB reached the final in IPL 2011 and IPL 2016 and came close to winning the cup in the last season but failed to cross the line. Several memes have been created over the years about his inability to win the title despite playing in a quality team.
So Gibbs didn’t miss the opportunity either. However, that doesn’t change the fact that AB is one of the best batsmen in the IPL, even if he didn’t win the title.
