Several top Indian stars returned to domestic cricket after a terrible Test season that saw embarrassing defeats against New Zealand and Australia.

Barring Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, who are currently suffering from minor injuries, Indian stalwarts like Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant among others participated in the ongoing round of matches in the second phase of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. He

In this article, we take a look at how these Indian international stars fared in the domestic red-ball tournament.

Rohit Sharma: 3 runs off 19 balls

Returning to Mumbai in almost a decade, Rohit Sharma needed a solid knock to overcome his nerves, especially after his dismal show in Australia where he managed just 31 runs in five innings at a terrible average of 6.20.

However, his poor scoring streak continued as the Indian captain managed just three runs off 19 deliveries and was troubled by the Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) pace duo of Auqib Nabi and Umar Nazir Mir throughout his stay in the area. Finally, Mir dismissed him as Rohit handed an edge to the midfielder.

Ravindra Jadeja (5/66; 38 off 36 balls)

The veteran Indian all-rounder, as always, made useful contributions in all departments. He first recorded a record five, becoming the fourth Saurashtra player to take more than 200 wickets in the tournament. The 36-year-old then scored a fiery 38 off 36 to put opponents Delhi on the back foot after initially defeating them for 188 with his ball heroics.

In the process, Jadeja also joined an elite list that includes players who have achieved the remarkable double of 3,000 runs and 200 wickets.

Shubman Gill (4 runs off 8 balls)

The dynamic top-order Indian batsman reported to Punjab for their match against Karnataka in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, in Bengaluru. Gill, who had a below-par outing in Australia with an average of 18.60, couldn’t beat his demons this time around either.

Gill was caught behind Abhilash Shetty’s delivery, just a couple of balls after covering it and pushing it for a boundary. Punjab’s fortunes did not improve and they folded for 55 runs in their first innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (4 runs off 8 balls)

The opening batting sensation enjoyed a stellar campaign in 2024 and was Indian’s leading run-scorer across all formats. It also topped the Indian charts on BGT.

In domestic cricket too he has stellar records but unfortunately he could not emulate them during the Mumbai match against J&K. He rushed out of the blocks, driving backward point to set a boundary, but the left-hander was given his marching orders when he got trapped against a seam delivery.

Rishabh Pant (1 run off 10 balls)

In Rajkot, Rishabh Pant represented Delhi in a First Class match for the first time since the 2017-2018 season. The dynamic left-hander was dismissed for just 1 run off 10 deliveries by experienced Saurashtra player Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, which only highlighted India’s continued batting struggles in international cricket.
