Yash Dayal’s redemption in the ongoing IPL 2024 is a years-long success story. Not many had given him a chance to turn things around after the fateful outing against Kolkata Knight Riders last year when Rinku Singh smashed him for five sixes in a row to achieve a miraculous victory for his team.
For a player who was still trying to make a name for himself on the big stage, becoming a household name for all the wrong reasons was a body blow. One person who simply could not cope with the setback was not Yash Dayal but his mother Radha Dayal. She became ill after the match and reportedly stopped eating as well.
The pacer was also struggling to cope with the setback. He lost his place in the eleven after the match and was also struggling mentally. However, the Uttar Pradesh star has changed things up stylishly in the ongoing season. A year after failing to defend almost 30 runs in five balls, he defended 11 runs in five balls against Chennai Super Kings to take Royal Challengers Bengaluru to the playoffs.
Yash Dayal calls his mother after starring against CSK:
What makes the achievement even more incredible is that he did it while two of the league’s best finishers were in the box: MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja. CSK needed 17 runs in the final over to qualify for the playoffs and Dhoni started the over on a perfect note by hitting Yash Dayal for a huge six.
However, Yash Dayal bounced back by dismissing the former India captain in the next ball before conceding just 1 run in the next 4 balls. After the leading display with the ball, the first thing Yash Dayal did was call his mother.
“Kaisa feel kar rahi ho (how are you feeling mom?),” the pacemaker asked his mother in a video call.
The pacer’s father, Chandrapal, also revealed that his son told his mother that he was confident of stopping Dhoni in the final.
“I was confident of making it after the first ball six and I was calm and collected,” Yash said about the last over. Chandrapal told PTI.
Furthermore, he recalled the match against KKR and said: “Woh darawana sapna firse aa raha tha jab Dhoni ne pehli pe sixer mara (That terrifying dream from last season started haunting me when Dhoni hit that 110m six off the first ball).”
“But deep down, I knew something good would happen this time. It’s all a result of his hard work, all credit to him. God has been kind.” he added.
