Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the finest bowlers India has produced, especially in Test cricket. Ashwin has picked up 516 wickets in 100 Tests so far at an average of 23.75. He is a vital cog in India’s red-ball plans and will be crucial in the spate of Test matches India will play in the coming months.

Apart from being a successful cricketer, Ashwin is an engineer and also a successful YouTuber. After the publication of his book “I Have The Streets: A Kutti Cricket Story”, he also became a writer.

It is clear that Ravichandran Ashwin is someone who does not like to take a break from work. He is always involved in something, be it playing cricket or interviewing famous personalities on his YouTube channel. Recently, he also took part in the TNPL, where he led his team Dindigul Dragons to win the title.

Ravichandran Ashwin talks about his unique way of living life

During an exclusive interview with news agency PTI, Ravichandran Ashwin revealed his way of living life. He said that he does not set any particular goal and does what he wants without thinking too much.

“I live my life, that’s all. I don’t think about achieving ‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ goals. I stay in the moment. I’m a creative person in general and if I feel like I want to do something, I do it. Whether it’s right or wrong, it’s something I’ll digest later,” Ravichandran Ashwin said.

But Ashwin was not always as confident as he is now. He revealed that he was insecure as a child but he got over it and it was reflected in his performance for the Indian team.

“I am not insecure at all. I prefer to fail in life than to be absolutely secure. That is my personality. I don’t have the common insecurities that people have. Breaking through my insecurity as a child gave me a great insight into how I can exploit the insecurity of others. And that is how I look at cricket or life in general,” the veteran bowler explained.

Ashwin has been repeatedly involved in social media banter over his views on some controversial cricket laws, especially the previously known Mankading rule. The 37-year-old has taken the fight head-on, especially with some of the England players and former players.

COVID holidays helped me express myself – Ravichandran Ashwin

The legendary bowler also mentioned that it was the break during the pandemic that allowed him to express himself freely in the last few years. During the initial times of the Covid-19 pandemic, cricket was limited and Ashwin had time to take a break and evaluate his life.

“The time I have is quite limited. I make plans, but for me it’s about living life. I felt cricket was taking up a lot of my time since its debut in India in 2010, but COVID gave me a chance to take a break and, you know, assess where I was,” Ashwin recalled.

“The COVID-enforced break has given me wings over the last four years to be able to express myself, expand my creative zones, etc.,” he says, referring to his success as a rare voice in Indian cricket.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s international debut

Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the few outspoken personalities in the Indian cricket team. The veteran has no qualms about speaking out and also has the courage to explain his views.

He made his international debut in 2010 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Ashwin was part of the Indian team that won the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy. He played key roles in India’s victories in both ICC tournaments.
