India is celebrating the 40th anniversary of India’s victory in the 1983 World Cup. Jeffery Dujon, who was a part of the West Indies team, recalled the famous Indian victory and shared some anecdotes.

Speaking to Boria Majumdar on RevSportz, Jeffrey Dujon said he had a feeling of anxiety about the World Cup final in 1983. Despite the mighty West Indies chasing a paltry total of 184, West Indies were dismissed for 140 and they fell short by 43 runs.

Speaking with Rev Sportz, Jeffrey Dujon recalled having a conversation with Andy Roberts about final day being a different day than normal.

“I’m not a superstitious person in that sense,” Dujon said. ‘But I had this strange premonition that that day was different. I knew we would have problems and Andy agreed with me. Even the way I came out was destined. I fought hard to get the match back in our favor and at 119, we only needed a further sixty-five runs to win. Another thirty minutes of batting and it could have changed our way.”

Furthermore, he recalled receiving an unplayable delivery from Mohinder Amarnath. Recalling the dismissal, Dujon said it was an unplayable delivery and he couldn’t stop it from hitting the stumps.

“It was not going to be. ‘It was not an unplayable installment [from Mohinder Amarnath], no way, but I couldn’t help but hit that ball against my stumps,’ Dujon said. The gods were with India. The world of cricket was destined to change.” Jeffery concluded by saying.
