Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim admitted that he disappointed his team during the match against India in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The veteran all-rounder missed Pakistan’s first match of the competition against the United States due to a rib injury. In his absence, Pakistan suffered a shock defeat to the co-hosts. Imad Wasim was given the green light to play against India and immediately returned to the eleven.

He did well with the ball as Pakistan restricted India to a modest total of 119 runs. Imad Wasim failed to take any wickets, but he bowled an economical spell, conceding just 17 runs in his three overs. Pakistan were favorites to win the game after restricting India to less than 120 runs and they were also in a good position during the chase.

At the end of the 12th over, they were 72 for 2 and needed 48 runs in as many balls with eight wickets in hand. However, they suffered a collapse and found themselves reeling at 88 for 5 and eventually ended their innings with 113 runs to lose the game by six runs.

After the loss, Imad Wasim faced criticism from all sides for not showing any intent with the bat. The all-rounder managed to score only 15 runs off 23 balls and lost his wicket in the final when his team needed 18 runs.

Imad Wasim on the defeat against India:

Speaking ahead of Pakistan’s final group match of the ongoing T20 World Cup, Imad Wasim stated that his team wanted to deepen the chase as it was not easy to bat in the field. He further admitted that he disappointed the team by not leading them to the goal and also said that he was very hurt by the failure.

“Our game plan (against India) was to deepen the chase. It was difficult to bat on the wicket. I let the team down because normally when I face these situations, I stay calm and finish the job,” Imad Wasim said. .

“Ending this chase was my job and I couldn’t do it, and that hurts me a lot. But that’s life, sometimes mistakes are made. I think my planning was correct but the execution was not good,” he added.

Pakistan have been eliminated from the T20 World Cup and will look to end their campaign with a win over Ireland in their final group match. The match is scheduled to be played on Sunday (June 16) in Lauderhill.
