Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir spoke about the ‘middle finger’ controversy during the Asia Cup 2023. He admitted that he made a wrong gesture and shouldn’t have done it.

Gautam Gambhir was part of the great controversy during the 2023 Asia Cup. During the match between India and Nepal, a video of him went viral in which he is seen showing his middle finger. The commentator was walking towards the commentary booth while he was talking on the phone.

When Gautam Gambhir walked past the crowd, they chanted “Kohli Kohli” and mocked him. The former Indian cricket reacted vigorously and showed the middle finger. However, he later clarified that the video was edited and the crowd raised anti-Indian slogans and he could not tolerate it.

Gautam Gambhir spoke about the same and admitted that it came in the heat of the moment. He said that everyone has their own way of reacting, but he shouldn’t have done that. Speaking on ANI Podcast, he explained:

“If I go there and some fans point and say ‘Hindustan Murdabad’ and once the security told them not to do it in the heat of the moment, I accept that I made a wrong gesture and sometimes when you hear these things, you react.

“Everyone reacts differently; everyone has a different mentality. “If someone doesn’t want to listen then you react and I accept that I shouldn’t have made that gesture.”

People can chant anyone’s name, I don’t care – Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir, while speaking further about the incident, said that he has no problem with people chanting the name of any individual, but he will not remain silent when it comes to the nation. He lashed out at the media for presenting things incorrectly. He elaborated:

“People can chant anyone’s name, I don’t care, like I said, I don’t take fights personally. But yes, when it comes to someone abusing my nation, I have the right to react anyway. “I probably want it in a more sensible way, but the things that have been written and spoken were wrong.”

Gautam Gambhir was recently involved in another controversy. He was involved in a fight with S Sreesanth during the Legends League Cricket.
