The former Indian Cricket player Ravichandran Ashwin believes that with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma withdrawing from the trial cricket, there will be a large leadership gap in the team. Kohli announced his decision just a few days after Rohit moved away from the format, which now exerts pressure on the selectors to name a new captain.
Ashwin supports Bumrah as a captaincy option
Speaking on his YouTube program, Ash Ki Baat, Ashwin said he was surprised to see both retire at the same time. He described this as a crucial period for the Indian Cricket and even called the beginning of the Gautam Gamble era. He pointed out that the team that goes to England will look completely different, and Jasprit Bumrah can end up being the most experienced player in the team. Ashwin added that Bumrah is one of the captaincy options and deserves the role, but the selectors will decide based on how much cricket can handle their body.
“I had no idea [Rohit and Kohli] They would retire together, “Ashwin said in his YouTube program ‘Ash Ki Baat’.” This will be a trial time for the Indian Cricket, and I will say that this is really the beginning of the Gautam Gambhir era.
“The team that will travel England will be a completely new team, a transformed team where Bumrah will probably be the highest player. It is obviously one of the captaincy options; I think the captaincy deserves, but the selectors will make a decision based on their physical capacity,” he added.

The experience in overseas conditions will be lost, says Ashwin
Ashwin also said that Kohli’s energy and Rohit’s quiet nature will be lost, especially in great tours abroad like the one approaching. He explained that the experience cannot be easily replaced, and losing both leaders at the same time is a great challenge.
“Its retirement will definitely create a leadership vacuum. You can’t buy experience, especially tours like this. Virat energy and Rohit’s composure will be lost,” Ashwin said.
Shubman Gill emerges as a favorite for the test captaincy
Shubman Gill is being seen as the main candidate for the role of the captain, although Bumrah has led India before in matches such as the Reth test and the fifth test in Sydney. The main concern to make Bumrah the full -time captain is to manage his workload.
He had back problems during the Sydney test and some key matches were lost later, including the Champions Trophy and the first part of the IPL season. This could affect whether or not it is chosen to lead the team.
