Ravindra Jadeja missed out on a well-deserved century by 14 runs in the ongoing first Test between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
India were in deep trouble on the first day of the Test after being reduced to 144/6. Even the 200-run mark seemed like a distant dream for the hosts at that stage. However, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin played brilliant knocks to bail India out of trouble. Thanks to their knocks, India managed to post a competitive total of 376 runs in the first innings.
Ashwin completed a stunning century on the first day. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 86. While the Indian cricket fraternity was eagerly waiting for the all-rounder to complete his century on the second day, he did not do so. In fact, Ravindra Jadeja failed to score any runs on the second day and was bowled out with his overnight score of 86.
And although the 35-year-old missed out on a well-deserved century, he didn’t seem too disappointed. At the end of the second day of play, Jadeja said his dismissal was “part and parcel of the game.” He also made it clear that his focus is entirely on helping the team win the Test.
“I got out today but it’s part of the game. Now we have to get a good score on the board in the second innings. I’m very happy with my bowling, the way I did today. It’s a good opportunity to take the 300th wicket on this ground,” said Jadeja, who took two wickets on the second day to take his Test wickets tally to 296.
“First we have to hit very well, we have to get to 120-150 from now on. We will be in a good position and then we will go out and pitch and try to get them out as soon as possible,” he added.
Ravindra Jadeja talks about his partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravindra Jadeja also spoke about his 199-run partnership with Ashwin. The all-rounder claimed that he did not need to give Ashwin any advice and praised his partner for his batting.
“First of all, Ashwin doesn’t need any advice. I was just talking to Ash that we are not going to make any mistakes or try to make mistakes because the wicket was very good and we both were batting very well,” Jadeja said.
“I said we would try to keep the singles matches simple, I would try not to make you run too much and that was the conversation we had. Well bowled by Ashwin, he played a brilliant knock on his home court,” he added.
Meanwhile, India bowled out Bangladesh for just 149 runs. The hosts finished the second day on 81 for 3 to take their overall lead to 308 runs.
