“Tell me God, what else do I have to do, if 65 innings, 3399 runs with an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126, I’m not good enough but I will keep my faith in you and I hope people believe me. Still, because I will return for sure. OM SAI RAM,” Prithvi Shaw wrote on his Instagram story.
Shaw was part of Mumbai’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy-winning team but had a difficult spell with the bat. He scored only 197 runs in 9 matches. Previously, his performance in IPL 2024 was equally disappointing. He managed only 198 runs at an average of 24.75, in a single half-century.
Shaw’s lack of consistent playing time, including six matches on the bench, contributed to him not being sold in the IPL 2025 auction, despite having a base price of INR 75 lakhs.
Shreyas Iyer: Shaw must focus and find his own answers
After Mumbai’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy win, Shreyas Iyer commented on Prithvi Shaw’s form. He emphasized that players at the professional level must take responsibility for their own performance.
He said no one can “take care of them” and that Shaw needs to reflect on his game and focus on improving independently, like he has done in the past.
“We can’t take care of anyone, right? Every professional who plays at this level needs to know what to do. And he has done it in the past too. It’s not that he hasn’t done it. You have to concentrate. You have to sit down, think, and then discover yourself. He will get the answer. No one can force him to do anything,” Shreyas said.
