ICC bans Bangladesh star Nasir Hossain for violating anti-corruption code

Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain has been banned for two years by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The ICC took the action after Hossein was suspended for 6 months after violating the ICC Anti-Corruption Code of Conduct.

Hossain was charged by the ICC in September 2023 after he admitted to all three charges. Hossain will be able to play international cricket again from April 7, 2025.

Nasir Hossain admitted to the following three Anti-Corruption Code of Conduct charges (as mentioned by the ICC):

  1. Nasir Hossain violated the Article 2.4.3 code after failing to present the receipt of a gift he received worth US$750 to the anti-corruption official. The gift was specifically an iPhone 12.
  2. Nasir Hossain violated the Article 2.4.4 code by failing to present to the anti-corruption officer the invitation he received to participate in the iPhone 12 corruption charges.
  3. Nasir Hossain violated Article 2.4.6 by neglecting or refusing, without providing a compelling reason, to assist the Designated Anti-Corruption Officer in his investigation into possible corrupt conduct under the Code. This included, but was not limited to, failing to provide the Designated Anti-Corruption Officer with all information and/or documentation that he requested, whether in the form of a formal demand made by Article 4.3 or otherwise.

Nasir Hossain suspended by ICC for 2 years

Nasir Hossain He has played a total of 115 games during Bangladesh in which he scored 2695 runs at an average of 28.67. He has scored 2 hundreds and 14 half-centuries throughout his international career and the highest score by him has been 1o0 runs.

Nasir Hossain was accused by the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit of engaging in corrupt activities during the 2020-21 Abu Dhabi T10 league. Hossain was part of the Pune Devils franchise and apart from him, Krishan Kumar Chaudhary and Parag Sanghvi (two of the Devils’ co-owners), Rizwan Javed and Saliya Saman (two national players), as well as Ashar Zaidi (batting coach) , Sunny Dhillon (assistant coach) and Shadab Ahamed (team manager) were also charged with the same offense by the ICC.

Pune Devils appeared in Abu Dhabi T10 2021 in which they could only win 1 match out of six games. The Emirates Cricket Board was appointed to oversee the entire matter, which subsequently laid all charges. While the Anti-Corruption Unit found that there were corrupt matches in the tournament, no evidence of match-fixing was found.

Nasir Hossain last appeared in the Dhaka First Division Cricket League and played for Prime Bank Cricket Club. Hossain was once one of the most promising players of the Bangladesh cricket team, but due to a drop in form, he was excluded from the national team. Nasir Hossain played his last match for Bangladesh on 25 January 2018 against Sri Lanka in Mirpur.
