Ireland cricket team Skipper Andrew Balbirnie displayed outstanding presence of mind and produced a smart run to dispose of United Arab Emirates captain Muhammad Waseem during the match between the two teams in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifiers.
The 20th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup qualifiers was played between the Group B teams Ireland and the United Arab Emirates at the Bulawayo Athletic Club on Tuesday 27 June. The United Arab Emirates won the toss and chose to pitch first.

The UAE started well as they managed to lift the wicket from opener Andy McBrine for just 24. However, what followed was a nightmare for UAE bowlers as the duo of Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie put together 184 runs. Both batsmen played wonderfully and smashed bowlers all over the park.

Paul Stirling scored 162 runs and Andy Balbirnie scored 66 runs. Also, Harry Tector chipped in a good half-century to help his side post 349/4 on the board.

Chasing the target, UAE captain and opener Muhammad Waseem played an aggressive style of cricket but was the first to go down, courtesy of a clever outing produced by the Ireland captain.

Mark Adair was bowling the 8th over and on the second ball of the over he delivered a long ball off the stump which went inside and hit Waseem, who was trying to play a defensive shot, in the gloves. Waseem looked sore and came out of his crease unaware of the ball, which had rolled towards the wing, and was seen waving for a physio.

The Ireland captain showed great presence of mind as he instantly picked up the ball and produced a direct hit on the batsman’s end to put out Waseem when the batsman was outside his box.

Waseem scored 45 runs from 32 deliveries, including 6 fours and 2 sixes as the United Arab Emirates were bowled out for 211, giving Ireland a huge 138-run victory.
