ICC World Test Championship Final: “Need Someone Decent Behind The Stumps To Do The Job” – Ravi Shastri On Team India’s Wicket-Keeper For WTC Final

Indian former player and head coach Ravi Shastri he believes that having a good goalkeeper behind the stumps is critical to the team’s chances in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

With KL Rahul ruled out due to injury, the selection is a draw between KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan.

Bharat remains the current starter having been chosen to wear the gloves for the most recent Border-Gavaskar test series. The 29-year-old did an excellent job as a goalkeeper, but was unable to display his full skills with the bat, as he managed just 101 runs in six innings in difficult conditions.

“It’s not like one guy is much better than the other” – Ravi Shastri

Former Indian player and head coach Ravi Shastri discussed the wicketkeeper position dilemma in Team India’s playing XI for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia.

According to Ravi Shastri in the most recent ICC Review, there is not much to distinguish between the two possibilities.

“Look, that’s another tough (decision). Now if two spinners are playing then you want Bharat to play. You have to see who is the better goalkeeper. Is it Bharat or Ishan Kishan? Now the fact that Bharat was given a run against Australia, where he played all the Test matches, I think he would be the obvious choice to go.” Ravi Shastri said.

“There isn’t much there. Not that one type is much better than the other. Hitting will also come into play, whether you want Ishan Kishan’s hitting to bolster the middle order. That’s another thing you’ll take into perspective. Are you going to go with four fast pitchers? So there’s not much turning and you just need someone decent behind the stumps to get the job done.” Ravi Shastri added.
