Wasim Khan said the game is set to be a fantastic event as full-blown crowds are expected for the first four days of the game. He said that they are going in the right direction. Speaking to the media, he said:
“We have been working very closely with the local organizing committee (ECB) to ensure it is a great show for the fans. We expect full crowds for each of at least the first four days. We know we are going in the right direction. It’s created a lot of interest in terms of fans, and two of the best teams in the world will go head-to-head, it’s going to be a fantastic event.”
ICC World Test Championship Final: “Lord’s was considered, but the decision was made at The Oval for this edition,” says Wasim Khan.
Wasim Khan went on to say that Lord’s was in contention to host the final, but they sought diversity. He also explained why the final is always played in England. He said:
“We hope the weather stays clear so we can get the full amount of cricket, although we have a reserve day to make up for lost time. The way the WTC cycle is set up, we’re playing in the northern hemisphere summer. We are looking for diverse locations, as they currently are within England.
“Lord’s was considered but the decision of El Oval was made for this edition. In terms of the final every two years, the UK is very suited to the setup of the tournament because it aligns so much with the northern hemisphere.
Both India and Australia have submitted their confirmed squadrons to the ICC. The teams will soon convene and kick off their full preparations.
