‘If I were the captain’ – Sunil Gavaskar reveals what I would have done against England after the hands of the handshake

The recent 4th Eng vs IND test in Manchester could have ended in a draw, but not before a dramatic episode that put both teams in Loggerheads.

What happened was with the match that sought to be a draw, England captain Ben Stokes offered a tight squeeze to the Ravindra Jadaja and Washington Sugndar. However, with Jaddu and Sundar in their 80s and centuries on the horizon, they rejected the offer.

The response of the Indians did not sit well with Stokes and said to Laada: “Do you want to score a hundred against Harry Brook?”

From an Indian point of view, it was an insulting comment since Brook is not a regular bowling player. While Ben Stokes decided to give the ball to Harry Brook, India hit another five overs with Jadeja and a sundar reaching their respective tons.

The incident in the middle stirred a great debate and grew again the spirit of the angle of the game. Echoing the same line, the former captain of India and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar revealed that he would have a non -mercy approach if he were the leader on the side.

Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar: “If they wanted to one hundred for their efforts, England should have denied them with adequate bowling players instead of complaining that they arrived against Harry Brook. A century of test is not easy and does not come in all games, so the batters had the right to break and reach their personal frames, what they finally did.”

Sunny G added: “If I were the Captain, I would have told them to continue batting and reproduce the remaining envelopes, further exhausting the Fildeadores, especially after the mischief of the English players once their offer was rejected.”
