ILT20 2024: Dubai Capitals announce David Warner as ILT20 captain

Australian batsman David Warner has been announced as the captain of the Dubai Capitals for the upcoming edition of the International League T20. The franchise made the official announcement on Sunday (December 31).

David Warner recently signed a two-year deal with Dubai Capitals and will now captain the team in the tournament. The second edition of ILT20 will be played from January 20 to February 18.

David Warner will miss Australia’s white-ball series to participate in the league due to his contract. Giving leadership to the left-hander will be one of the most important moves for the team since, in addition to his hitting, he has been excellent as a leader.

David Warner was the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL and also under him the team won the title in 2016. He did a great job as a leader of the team and also led from the front, making the team a dominant force in the IPL. He is the league’s leading rusher among foreign hitters. The Australian opener recently became a part of the Delhi Capitals in IPL as he was acquired in 2022.

David Warner also captained the team in 2023 in the absence of Rishabh Pant, but he did not have a great performance as a leader as under him the teams were eliminated early from the tournament. However, as a batsman, he was right on the money as he played some amazing shots.

Dubai Capitals in the last edition of the league reached the Qualifiers of the tournament. However, with David Warner, they would hope to take two steps forward and win the title. The Australian batsman would enter the league with the baggage of expectations.

David Warner has represented Delhi Capitals in 80 matches and has scored 2362 runs for the team and has also smashed 2 centuries and 21 half-centuries. In total in IPL, he scored 6397 runs in 176 games with a strike rate of around 140. He also has 4 tons and 61 half-centuries.

David Warner to retire from Test cricket after last Test against Pakistan

David Warner is currently part of the Australian squad for the ongoing Test series against Pakistan. The batsman is set to retire from the longest format of the game after the last Test of the series. The match will be played at his home stadium, the SCG, from January 3. The hosts have already won the series 2-0 and are now hoping to whitewash their opponents and give a fairytale ending to the first batter.

David Warner has been fantastic on the ongoing series. He opened his account in the series with a magnificent century. The batsman has so far scored 208 runs in two matches. Given that he is scheduled to play in white for the last time, he would hope to finish his career on a high and make a big splash. He has been an incredible servant to Australia and it is fair to say that once he leaves, finding a player of his caliber would be difficult for the team.
