Imran Khan and Mohsin Naqvi

Legendary Pakistan cricketer and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has criticised the current administration of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) led by Mohsin Naqvi.

Imran Khan’s statement came after Pakistan cricket team’s defeat against Bangladesh cricket team during the first Test of the two-match series.

Pakistan suffered an embarrassing 10-wicket defeat against Bangladesh in the first Test match in Rawalpindi on Sunday, August 25.

The Pakistani team was bowled out for just 146 in their second innings. It is worth mentioning that this was Bangladesh’s first ever win over Pakistan in the history of Test cricket.

Pakistan opted for fast bowlers during the recent match against Bangladesh. Their four fast bowlers combined to put up disappointing figures of 9 wickets for 359 runs, averaging nearly 40.

Pakistan’s bowlers enabled Bangladesh to score 565 runs and gain a lead of 117 runs in the first innings.

We are facing an embarrassing defeat against Bangladesh – Imran Khan

Speaking from Adiala Jail, where he is currently incarcerated, Imran Khan described the recent Test defeat against Bangladesh as “shameful”.

He accused the current unqualified administration of the Pakistan Cricket Board of ruining the sport.

“Cricket is the only sport that the entire nation watches with great interest on television, but even that has been destroyed by powerful quarters who brought in an unqualified and favoured official to maintain their control,” Imran Khan was quoted as saying.

Former Pakistan captain expressed his disappointment over his country’s poor performance during the 2024 T20 World Cup. The former Pakistan Prime Minister highlighted that the team had defeated India just two and a half years ago. He attributed the team’s decline to the current administration.

“For the first time, we (Pakistan) failed to make it to the top four in the World Cup or top eight in T20. And yesterday, we suffered an embarrassing defeat against Bangladesh, which marked a new low. Just two-and-a-half years ago, this team had defeated India by 10 wickets. What has happened in these two-and-a-half years when we lost to Bangladesh by 10 wickets? The blame for this entire collapse lies with one institution,” Imran added.

Mohsin Naqvi owns property worth $5 million – Imran Khan

In a lengthy tweet, Imran Khan accused Mohsin Naqvi of corruption and mismanagement. He said that Naqvi owns properties in Dubai worth $5 million in the name of his wife.

“Mohsin Naqvi owns a property in Dubai worth $5 million in the name of his wife. He is involved in the wheat procurement scandal and was behind the most fraudulent election in our country,” Imran wrote.

Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi is facing immense scrutiny from former cricketers after Bangladesh stunned Pakistan with a 10-wicket win in the first Test of the ongoing series.

It is noteworthy that this was Bangladesh’s first win over Pakistan in the history of Test cricket.

The second and final Test match of the series will be played at the same venue, starting on Friday, August 30. Pakistan will be hoping to win the match and level the series, while Bangladesh will aim to complete a clean sweep of the two-match Test series.
