IND vs AFG: No Pat Cummins! Shakib Al Hasan picks Rohit Sharma as opposition’s favorite captain

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan has revealed that Indian captain Rohit Sharma is his favorite rival captain. Shakib made the big revelation while he was speaking on the YouTube channel ‘What A Show’. Rohit recently led India to their first Test victory at the Sahara Park Newlands in Cape Town and became the second Indian captain to draw a Test series in South Africa.

Shakib Al-Hasan had also praised Rohit Sharma ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup after his breakup with Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal. That time, Shakib had stated that Tamim should learn from Rohit on how to play selflessly for the team.

Shakib Al Hasan calls Rohit Sharma a ‘selfless’ cricketer

Shakib Al Hasan had previously stated: “Look at someone like Rohit Sharma. He built his career from number 7 to the first match, he scored more than 10,000 runs. If he sometimes bats at number 3 or 4, would that be a big problem? He is totally childish. It’s my bat, I’ll play. Nobody else can play. A player must bat at any position on the team. Team first. It doesn’t matter if you’ve made 100 or 200 and the team loses. What can you do with personal achievements? Do you want to make a name for yourself?”

Rohit Sharma’s captaincy career in the Indian cricket team has been full of ups and downs. Rohit has been brilliant for India as he led the team in a bilateral series, but he is yet to win an ICC title for them. Under Rohit, India qualified for the semi-final of the 2022 T20 World Cup, the final of the 2023 World Test Championship and the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

However, if we compare Rohit Sharma’s captaincy career with that of Virat Kohli, then Kohli has had more success overseas than Rohit. However, Rohit has led Mumbai Indians to win five Indian Premier League titles, while Virat has not won any.

Shakib and Rohit also share a lovely bond off the field. Shakib also played many matches against Rohit while playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

Rohit Sharma is probably in the final phase of his career and could play for the team for the next two-three years. With the T20 World Cup this year, he will most likely be played under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya or Suryakumar Yadav.

The tournament could also feature a young Indian cricket team without big names like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The Indian team will want to win back the trophy after 2007 and also win an ICC title after 11 years.

The Indian team will play Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series; However, the team for the same is yet to be announced. The BCCI could rest Rohit, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the series as India would face England right after the T20I series against Afghanistan.

India and England would play a five-match Test series, which is very important from the World Test Championship perspective.
