Indian goalkeeper Dinesh Karthik wants Washington Sundar to replace Axar Patel in India‘s 3rd ODI against Australia.
India suffered their biggest defeat in ODI history in terms of balls remaining in the previous match, with the Aussies chasing a dismal target of 118 runs in 11 overs, winning the match by 10 wickets as the Men in Blue were outscored with both: bat. and ball

The former KKR captain recently said that India could use Sundar’s high arm spin off in powerplay overs, which could come in handy against left-handed starter Travis Head. Karthik also noted that the 3rd ODI will also take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Sundar’s home ground.
“I’ll be looking at Washington Sundar because he has the potential to play Travis Head. He has a good matchup and is someone who likes to bowl on the power play. This is his home ground, and he would have played a lot here.
“The only change I can think of is should we bring in Washington Sundar so he can pitch on the power play because you won’t see the kind of movement we have in these two games in Chennai. So Washington Sundar for Axar Patel,” he said.

Axar, who scored 29 fights from 29 balls in India’s disappointing first innings performance, replaced Shardul Thakur to place in the second ODI. With the 50+ World Cup at home on the horizon, Team India will be looking to hone their combination in the coming months.
Rhythm legend Zaheer Khan thinks otherwise, stating India is unlikely to make changes to the team.
While Dinesh Karthik feels India should make a team change in the important 3rd ODI, former pacer Zaheer Khan suggests the team is unlikely to make any major changes ahead of the tie.
With India batting well below performance in the second ODI, Zaheer highlighted that the batting unit has been a cause for concern. Having brought an additional star to the team when he replaced Axar Patel with Shardul Thakur, Khan noted that the India team will look to change their plans on the pitch rather than make any personnel changes.
“It’s not about looking at the staff or changing anything on that team. It’s all about understanding the conditions and seeing what Chennai brings. You might have that extra spinner, which you already have. I don’t think they are going to make any changes to the playing XI. But they certainly need to do things about how they plan batting innings,” he said.
With India posting their lowest ever total against Australia at home, the team will need to turn their fortunes around quickly. Some might even say that Rohit Sharma and co will go into the 3rd ODI as underdogs, which is a rare thing to see for the Men in Blue on home soil.
