Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly shared his thoughts on the Rohit Sharma-led team clinching the trophy in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States. Sourav Ganguly highlighted the players’ performances in IPL 2024, which will benefit the Indian team in the ICC tournament.
The Indian cricket team clinched the T20 World Cup trophy in the inaugural 2007 edition in South Africa. The Men in Blue defeated Pakistan in the summit clash to secure the title. The team reached the final match of the 2014 edition but suffered a six-wicket defeat against the Sri Lanka cricket team in Dhaka.

In conversation with Revsportz, Sourav Ganguly expressed his confidence in the Indian team’s ability to win the T20 World Cup. Ganguly highlighted that India will start as favorites in the upcoming tournament, considering the quality of the team and the favorable conditions in New York.
“Of course they do. The team has several quality players and comes into the tournament on the back of some serious T20 cricket in the form of the IPL. That should help them in New York. What will also go in their favor are the bigger fields and that It will help our spinners, for example, in a World Cup you can never rule out India simply for the simple reason that there is a lot of quality in the team,” Ganguly told Revsportz.
Rohit Sharma led the Indian team in the last edition of the T20 World Cup in Australia. The Men in Blue reached the semifinals but failed to advance to the final match. The Indian team suffered a 10-wicket defeat to eventual champions England in the semi-final match in Adelaide.

A total of 20 teams will compete for the long-awaited trophy in the tournament from June 1 to 29. They are divided into four groups of five each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8. The top two nations from each group in the Super 8 will advance to the World Cup semi-finals.
India is placed in Group A along with Pakistan, Ireland, Canada and the United States. The Rohit Sharma-led team will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland in New York on June 5. The Men in Blue will take on arch-rivals Pakistan in a highly anticipated encounter at the same venue in New York on June 9.
Group B includes England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland and Oman. The West Indies are placed in Group C along with New Zealand, Afghanistan, Uganda and Papua New Guinea. Group D consists of South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands and Nepal.
