Team India and Ireland are opening their campaign in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 by facing off in the eighth game of the competition. The match will be played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
This is the second meeting between the two teams in the T20 World Cup and the first since 2009. India and Ireland had played only one match in the T20 World Cup against each other before the ongoing match. Talking about the ongoing game, it started on a controversial note due to an incident that took place during the toss.
Toss grabbed the headlines for all the wrong reasons during the recently concluded IPL and a similar situation could arise once again. As for the incident, it occurred right after the coin fell to the ground. Ireland captain Paul Stirling had whistled for headers and match referee David Boon declared that he had made the correct decision. However, he quickly changed his decision and said that Rohit Sharma had won the toss.

Meanwhile, India opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Speaking after winning the toss, Rohit Sharma said: “We are going to bowl. The preparations have been good. We have handled ourselves in these new conditions. It has been a challenge but we are all professionals. We play on a similar pitch and we know what to wait a little bit.
“I know it will be a little different from what we are used to. But that’s the sport. I’m not too sure about the conditions so I thought having a target in front of us would be good. The ones who are missing out are Kuldeep, Sanju , Jaiswal and one more,” he added.
On the other hand, Stirling said: “We come with a pretty good preparation, we were recently in Holland (for the tri-series). We have many winning players in our team, we want them to show up that day. We.” “We’re looking to evaluate conditions early.”
