India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant had a decent outing with the bat in the match against Ireland in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The match between the two teams took place at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

India started their ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign on a high by beating Ireland by 8 wickets to clinch important twin points. The bowlers set up the game quite well for them as they defeated their opponents by just 96 runs.

With the bat, it was a tough start for India as they lost Virat Kohli (1) early. But after that, Rohit Sharma (52) and Rishabh Pant batted, it was for all to appreciate as the duo took the game away from the opposition.

Rishabh Pant, who scored a half-century in the warm-up game, in particular, looked sensational to the eyes and it is fair to say that his batting at number 3 and good performance will be a big boost for the team. The wicketkeeper-batsman continued in good form and played another decent innings.

Rishabh Pant took quite a few hits on the body but he made sure to stay there till the end and helped his team win the game. What caught the attention of many was the way he finished the game for his team and led the team to victory.

Rishabh Pant recreated his famous reverse-scoop shot for six, which he smashed against James Anderson during the Test series in India a few years ago. He made sure to end things in style as India registered an 8-wicket win in New York.

Irish pacer Barry McCarthy bowled a length ball outside off, which Rishabh Pant reversed and tucked it straight behind the keeper for six. He seemed relieved after scoring the six as earlier he had faced a lot of knocks due to the nature of the pitch.

Here is the video:

Rishabh Pant played an unbeaten innings of 36 runs off 26 balls. He batted at a strike rate of around 140 and also hit 3 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. His brave knock helped India chase down the target in 13 overs at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

Wasim Jaffer and Irfan Pathan praise Rishabh Pant for his innings

After India’s victory, Irfan Pathan highly praised Rishabh Pant. He said the scoring runs between the wicketkeeper and the batsman in the top order were a big advantage. On his Twitter account he stated:

“A good start by the Indian team. That Rishabh Pant was a left-handed batsman scoring runs in the top order was a big advantage for me.”

On the other hand, Wasim Jaffer was left stunned at the end by Rishabh Pant’s backward shot. He said his shot should be played in Times Square and would attract Americans to cricket. He added.

“Take a clip of that winning reverse six from Rishabh Pant and play it in Times Square. If that doesn’t get Americans into cricket, nothing will.”
