Regardless of how he bats and his strike rate, former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar believes Virat Kohli’s winning mentality will remain the same.
Virat Kohli, among other Indian team players, will be in action tomorrow when they take on Ireland in their first match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Men in Blue will try to start their Group A campaign with a win and 2 crucial points at Nassau County Stadium in New York.
Five days from now, India will take on arch-rivals and long-time foes Pakistan in their second Group A match in New York on June 9. In their previous encounter in the WC T20 two years ago in Australia, Virat Kohli was the one who snatched the game out of Pakistan’s reach as the Indians had claimed a 4-wicket win.
What did Sanjay Bangar say about Virat Kohli’s strike rate?
Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar was recently in a conversation with Star Sports in which he spoke about the chances of Rohit Sharma’s team. He was also asked to shed some light on what Virat Kohli’s mindset will be for this edition of the T20 World Cup in USA and West Indies.
Bangar stated that Virat Kohli, no matter how he plays, slow or fast, his main motive will be to get his team over the line. He has been playing for the country for a long time and has the responsibility of helping India win matches. And for that reason, Bangar believes Kohli might not play the same way he has for years.
Virat Kohli is also in very good form as he scored more than 700 runs in the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League and became the highest run-getter. In India, he found flat batting tracks and was harshly criticized for his low strike rate, but in New York he will find a slow surface where strike rate won’t matter as much.
“You can’t decide and say that you will play like this just because when you play for a long time for any team, you obviously have the responsibility to win games. So regardless of how you play, playing shots or your way, your focus will be more on winning. matches”. – Sanjay Bangar told Star Sports.
Bangar feels Kohli will reach new heights
Sanjay Bangar then thanked Virat Kohli for his performances in major ICC tournaments. He has been the team’s best player and top scorer in the two previous white-ball competitions: the 50-over World Cup in 2023 and the T20 World Cup in 2022.
He is also the highest run-scorer in the history of the T20 World Cup and will aim to add to his tally of 1141 runs he has scored in the event since 2012. If these achievements are not enough, Bangar believes Virat Kohli can touch new heights .
“The way he has performed in the T20 World Cups or any World Cup, he has improved his game a lot. So I have full confidence that he will reach new heights in this World Cup.” – concluded Sanjay Bangar.
