The voice of cricket Harsha Bhogle recently picked his ODI team of the year 2023. What caught the attention of many was that Harsha Bhogle did not pick Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the team.

Harsha Bhogle chose the Indian opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as the two openers in his team. The duo were instrumental in India’s success this year in the 50-over format and were one of the main reasons why the team reached the final of the ICC World Cup 2023.

Shubman Gill finished 2023 as the leading run-getter in ODIs this year. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma led the opposition to cleanliness in the powerplay and captained the team brilliantly.

At number 3, Harsha Bhogle picked the king of the Indian batting line-up in Virat Kohli. The batsman was at his best in the ODIs this year and racked up a ton of runs. His finest hour came during the ICC World Cup 2023, where he finished as the leading run-getter with 765 runs to his name.

South Africa’s Aiden Markram made the cut in Harsha Bhogle’s ODI XI of the year. The right-hander played big knocks for his team this year and finished with 1033 runs to his name. He also contributed with the ball and contributed significantly to his team.

Harsha Bhogle backed Pakistani Mohammad Rizwan to be the goalkeeper for his team. The right-hander was Pakistan’s leading run-getter in ODIs this year. Jasprit Bumrah, who was not picked by Harsha Bhogle, bagged 28 wickets in the 17 games he played. His finest hour came during the World Cup and with the caliber that he possesses, it was surprising that Harsha Bhogle did not pick him. The pacer, however, was injured for most of the year.
