As the year 2023 is about to end, former Indian cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Irfan Pathan were asked about their highlight of the year in the Indian team. The year 2023 has been a true marvel for the ‘Men in Blue’, with some ups, downs and heartbreaks. The Indian team reached the top of the table in all formats, while they lost the final against Australia of the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup.

The victory in Asia Cup 2023 was also an important moment for the Indian cricket team this year as they remained relentless throughout the tournament except for the loss against Bangladesh in the Super 4 stage. It was the Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj who defeated Sri Lanka in the final of the tournament and closed them out with 50 runs.

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar also believes that India’s victory in the Asia Cup 2023 was the best moment for him in the year 2023. Gavaskar stated that beating Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka was not easy.

Irfan Pathan and Sunil Gavaskar name Team India’s ‘breakthrough’ moment in 2023

Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports: “Team India’s biggest moment for me was the Asia Cup championship because beating Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka is not easy. Sri Lanka were the second biggest winners in the Asian Cup final, while in the Asian Cup India were just one win ahead. So now, to go even further, I think it was an exceptional performance.”

However, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan felt otherwise and believed that the ‘big break’ moment for the Indian team in the year 2023 would be the ODI World Cup. Pathan claimed that until the final, no one would have thought that India would lose the match. India defeated the teams in a dominant and terrifying manner.

Irfan Pathan said, “I think the World Cup will continue to be the best moment, the World Cup will continue to be because until the final came, no one believed that the Indian team would lose the final. In that way, they were beating all the teams by intimidating them, whether you talk about South Africa, whether you talk about England, even the way they beat Australia in the first match, they beat them in a completely convincing way. I think if we talk about outstanding performance, it was the World Cup except for one game.”

The Indian team showed a wonderful performance in the ODI World Cup 2023 as they had won 10 out of 10 games before the final and were just one win away from equaling Australia’s huge ODI World Cup record of 11 consecutive wins.

However, Australia played better in the CWC 2023 final and it was Travis Head again who snatched the final match from the Indian team as well as the WTC final.

With the year 2024 approaching, the Indian team will participate in the T20 World Cup and will want to win it after 2007. India lost to England in the semi-final of the previous T20 World Cup and could now be a young Indian team. who play the biggest ICC T20 event without big names like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
