It was not a happy return for Ravindra Jadeja in the Test format as he was dismissed for a duck on Day 1 of India’s first innings in the second Test match. Jadeja was dismissed soon after KL Rahul’s departure and Marco Jansen caught her in the gully.

Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed on the third ball of the 34th over when Lungi Ngidi bowled a bumper and the ball hit Ravindra Jadeja’s gloves and went straight into the hands of Marco Jansen in the gully. Jansen had to lunge forward to complete the catch.

The Indian team had started with a bang in response to South Africa’s first innings score as Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored 13 runs off Proteas pacer Lungi Ngidi’s first over. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal failed again and was dismissed for a duck by Kagiso Rabada.

After Yashasvi Jaiswal’s early exit, Rohit Sharma continued his aggressive approach and hit seven fours in his 39 run innings. Finally Rohit was caught in the gully by Marco Jansen after a hit in the stable. Indian batsman Shubman Gill also played some steady shots from the start of the innings and hit 5 fours to make 36 runs off 55 balls. However, Gill was unlucky and Marco Jansen also sacked him.

At one end. Virat Kohli once again continued his great touch and started taking shots from the 1 ball, Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for a duck from Nandre Burger. India finished with 111/4 at Tea on Day 1.

Continuing to bat after Tea, India’s lower order soon perished as it was Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada, who started attacking for the Proteas after Nandre Burger. No, the Indian batsmen apart from Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli were able to cross double digits and got out in single figures.

The wickets fell for India like a pack of cards and from 153/4 they fell to 153/10. India’s top scorer in the first innings was Virat Kohli, who scored 48 runs off 59 balls and hit a total of six fours and a six in all his innings.

India leads by 98 runs in their first innings and now the onus is on the Indian pacers to conclude South Africa’s first innings as soon as possible.

South Africa put up a nightmare batting performance during the first innings of the Cape Town Test as they were tied at a mere score of 55 runs. Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj proved too much for South Africa as he finished the innings with figures of 6/15 in nine overs. Indian bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar picked up two wickets each.

The Indian team is yet to win a Test match in Cape Town since playing its first match at that ground since 1995. The Sahara Park Newlands has emerged as a fortress for South Africa against India, however, in the current situation , any team can win. However, in the second test match, India has a better chance of winning the match.
