Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill’s moment came when South Africa batted for the second time of the day. The fast bowlers of both the teams had a sensational outing in the day 1 game, in which they fell as many as 23 wickets.

India first bowled out South Africa for 55 runs and then it was the Proteas player who returned the favour. The Dean Elgar-led team outscored the visitors by 153 runs and ensured that they did not allow the opponent to take a lead of more than 100 runs.

With India taking a 98-run lead in the first innings, South Africa was expected to have a better performance in the second innings. But the Indian pacers once again got it right as they picked three wickets and ended the day on a high.

IND vs SA: Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill play decent hands with the bat

Although India managed only 153 runs in their innings, they also put up some decent batting performances. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli were the best players in the team as they played vital hands for the team and ensured that the team got a decent lead in the first innings.

India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early and then Shubman Gill took matters into his hands. He negotiated the tough phase with captain Rohit Sharma (39) as the duo added 50-plus runs for the partnership to give the team a vital start. After the captain got out, Gill joined Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill batted well together and added 33 runs in association. Both batsmen got starts but unfortunately couldn’t convert them. While Gill finished with a knock of 36 runs, Kohli scored 46 runs.

The series between India and South Africa is currently parked at 1-0 with the Proteas leading the way. Although the Rohit Sharma-led team cannot win the series, it will be a great opportunity for them to tie the series. If they manage to win the current match, it will be the first time they have drawn a series in South Africa since 2010.
